Mimbres Black on White, framed, 8X8"

This clay composition was created during an anthropology class I was taking on prehistory of the southwest. I was very intrigued by the Mimbres people and the unusual, beautiful pottery they created during the classic Mimbres period, around 1000 AD.  The Mimbres are a branch of the cultural traditional known as Mogollon, located primary in New Mexico and parts of Arizona and Mexico.  Their highly-prized pottery was traditionally buried with the deceased which unfortunately led to destructive of sensitive cultural sites during the 1970's by looters and collectors. "Mimbres Black on White" is created from stylized, original, hand-cut tile pieces inspired by the images on the pottery of the Mimbres people. Measures 8 X 8", framed, sealed and ready for display indoors or out.
